The Tomlinson Lake Hike to Freedom 2024 is set to be an inspiring event that brings history to life by retracing the footsteps of freedom seekers who traveled the Underground Railroad to find refuge in Canada. Located near the New Brunswick-Maine border, this annual hike immerses participants in the powerful legacy of resilience and hope embodied by Black freedom seekers who journeyed northward in search of liberty. The 2024 event will follow the newly completed loop around the lake, including a 30 m section of the historic trail, significant as the spot where fugitives would have first glimpsed the lake and freedom. Join other participants as well as well as local historians, reenactors, and interactive experiences that celebrate the rich heritage of African Canadians. This year, the hike will also highlight the significance of Tomlinson Lake as a sanctuary and a symbol of Black perseverance, offering a poignant reminder of the contributions of Black Canadians in shaping the nation. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an advocate for social justice, a hiker, or a geocacher, the Tomlinson Lake Hike to Freedom 2024 is a unique opportunity to honor this remarkable journey toward freedom while fostering reflection on our collective responsibility to advance equity today.
